Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is a leading global technology company known for its e-commerce platform, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. A major part of its business is Amazon Web Services (AWS), a comprehensive cloud computing platform. In the cloud sector, it competes with companies like Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT)'s Azure and Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Cloud.

Following a robust quarterly performance, Roth Capital has increased its stock price target for Amazon to $325, as highlighted by TheFly. At the time of the report, the stock was trading at $271.58 per share. This new target suggests a potential increase of approximately 19.67% from its recent trading price.

This positive investment outlook is supported by a recent 15.32% surge in Amazon's stock price after an impressive second-quarter earnings report. A key driver was the company's cloud unit, AWS, which saw its revenue climb 37% year-over-year to $42.20 billion. This growth rate surpassed analyst expectations of 31%.

AWS is a significant profit source for the company. The segment generated $16.60 billion in operating income, accounting for about 60% of Amazon's total profits. This strong performance prompted CEO Andy Jassy to predict that AWS could eventually achieve $1 trillion in revenue, bolstering investor confidence.

Further strengthening the company's position, both its artificial intelligence (AI) and chip businesses are now operating at revenue run rates exceeding $25 billion. A company's revenue run rate projects future revenue based on current earnings. Additionally, Amazon's backlog, which represents future contracted revenue, grew to $496 billion.
