Mastercard (NYSE: MA) is a global technology company operating in the payments industry. It connects consumers, businesses, and financial institutions through its vast payment network. Following a strong quarter, investment firm Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) raised its price target for Mastercard to $701, while maintaining a 'Buy' rating on the stock.

This positive analyst sentiment reflects the company's recent financial performance. Mastercard stock gained over 2.2% after reporting stronger-than-expected second-quarter results. The stock price was $577.35 when Goldman Sachs announced its new, higher price target, which was an increase from the previous target of $674.00.

The company posted adjusted earnings of $5.04 per share, which surpassed the consensus estimate of $4.77. Revenue also beat expectations, increasing 14% year-over-year to $9.28 billion. On a GAAP basis, which is a standard accounting method, net income grew 19% to $4.39 billion.

As highlighted by Zacks (NASDAQ: ZI), this growth comes from a significant increase in cross-border volume and more switched transactions. Switched transactions are the total number of payments processed through the company's network. Strong demand for value-added services also contributed, with revenue from that segment growing 20%.

Following these results, Mastercard raised its full-year revenue outlook, now expecting growth in the "low teens." Executives also discussed how artificial intelligence (AI) could improve the business, as noted by PYMNTS.com. They believe AI will not change the fundamental way that payments work on their network.
